Parliament Buildings requires essential conservation cleaning works to address biological growth, carbon soiling, and harmful pollutants that have accumulated on the Portland limestone façades and associated external elements. The project includes cleaning the front elevation of Parliament Buildings, portico, tower, kerbs, steps, dwarf walls and architectural detailing, excluding areas expressly omitted in the specification. Repointing to approximately 10% of joints is anticipated following cleaning. A specialist contractor is required due to the conservation sensitivity, the need for controlled methodologies, and the requirement for careful liaison with the Conservation Architect.
