While NTL will still need to maintain and replace aspects of the hardware, the largest proportion of ongoing costs with the supplier is for the back-office and hosting support, which is bespoke to the OEM due to intellectual property rights (IPR).\nNorthern does not have the ability to replace hardware across 260+ trains due to the cost and disruption to passenger service, noting that the original fitment plan took 5 years from start to present day, and some trains are still not yet \ncompleted particularly noting that NTL is underway with a new trains procurement which will see these assets being removed from service at some point beyond 2030.",
