Scope of WorksThe work specified within this tender is situated between Llyn Crafnant and the A5 trunk road at Capel Curig. The purpose of the work is to improve the existing R.O.W. infrastructure between the Ogwen and Conwy valleys and to significantly reduce the risk of further degradation and erosion of this fragile landscape. The work will be undertaken in accordance with accepted and long-established good working practices. Construction techniques will be environmentally sound and will focus on sustainable construction, with minimal future maintenance costs. It is crucial that the paths have minimal visual impact on the landscape and should provide the user with an intimate experience of the surrounding area. The path should work with the terrain rather than working through it.The construction will be of a solid surface technique (dictated by the terrain and underlying geology) with extensive sections of aggregate surfacing, and some sections requiring partial floating over soft terrain. Some sections will also require significant drainage management (to minimise impediment and maintain the natural flow) necessitating in the construction of cross culverting and ballast filled side drainage (approx. 90% of drainage construction will utilise the pre-existing and extensive ditching network to be found on site). Further works will include the replacement of gates.
